More About Egypt Ferry Travel
Egypt - Most people who think of Egypt think of antiquities, but Egypt offers much more.
Certainly it is a prime location to see our great heritage from the ancient world, including Pyramids and wonderful temples, but it is also part of the Holy Land, and tours to Christian and other religious monuments are popular. Yet Egypt also offers nature and desert treks, great scuba diving and even golf, fishing and birding expeditions.
One may choose to relax on the wondrous Egypt Red Sea or Sinai coasts, take in the high culture of Cairo, or even leisurely float down the Egyptian Nile on a luxurious river boat.
There are a number of ferry routes in and around Egypt that are open to passengers.
Hurghada – Sharm El Sheilh: The catarmaran that runs between hurghada and Sharm el sheikh makes a useful shortcut between mainland Egypt and Sinai.
The journey takes just one and a half hours (although delays are common), and makes a preferable alternative to the 12 hour bus journey. For more details including schedules

There was some talk of a ferry from Taba to Aqaba but as of yet this option has not materialised. Some tour operators charter small vessels that make the journey but you would need to book as part of a return package through a travel agent. This is the route of choice for operators that run day trips from Sinai to Petra .
Ferries to/from Egypt
To Sudan - Nile River Valley Transport Corporation operates a weekly ferry between Aswan ( Egypt ) and Wadi Halfa ( Sudan ). Read more about the ferry Egypt to Sudan
Nuweiba ( Egypt ) – Jordan (Aqaba): Ferries in Egypt also travel between Egypt and Jordanacross the Gulf of Aqaba from Nuweiba. The journey takes between 1 hours or 3 hours depending on which ferry you take (slow or fast). For more details including schedules click here.
From Europe – There is now a brand new ferry sfrom Venice to Alexandria. Although schedules are yet to be published, the jouney should take approximately three days and will be the only Europe to Egypt ferry in operation.
Disappointingly the only other boats currently making the journey between Alexandria and Europe are cargo boats only not open to passanegers. If you want to overland it from Europe to Egypt you can either take a ferry from Italy to Tunisia and then travel through Lybia. Or alternatively, travel clockwise through turkey, Syria , Jordan and thenacross the red sea to Sinai. Both are potentially life changing trips but not for those with time constraints.
International ferries operate to and out of Egypt's main ports, such as Alexandria, Suez, and Port Said.
The ferry boat that leaves Alexandria goes to the following distention:
- To Limassol
- To Herakliion and Athens
- To Heraklion and Genoa
Pease note that these ferries at the moment Carrie cargo and no passengers.
The ferry boat that leaves Port Said goes to the following destinations:-
Rhodes & Athens and carry only cargo and no passengers.
The ferry boat that leave Suez goes to Jeddah.
