More About The Canary Islands

There are ten of the Canary Islands (Spain) and they all are a Spanish archipelago located just off the northwest coast of mainland Africa, 100 km west of Morocco. The Canaries are a Spanish Autonomous Community and an Outermost Region of the European Union.

The Canary Islands are very popular holiday destinations for European and especially for British travellers. More than 5 million tourists from UK visit Tenerife every year and that's just one of the Canary Islands!

The CanaryIslands (from largest to smallest) are; Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montaña Clara. Most visited of all the Canary Islands are Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

The archipelago's beaches, climate and important natural attractions, especially Teide National Park and Mount Teide are the main reason for the popularity of this fantastic part of world.

Another reason for the popularity of the Canary Islands and especially in Europe is that there are many cheap flights and ferry crossings to Canary Islands and it's very close to Europe's mainland. The busiest ports in Canary Islands are the Tenerife (North/TFN & South/TFS) and the Gran Canaria Airports (LPA).

No matter what is your holiday destination there is always something to do and to see in the Canary Islands. The weather in Canary Islands is so nice that many people are buying properties in this beautiful part of the world so they can return over and over again. Its no secret that you can have a wonderful holiday in the Canary Islands any time of the year. And its only four hours away from UK.

Tourists from all over the world have loved these beautiful Spanish Islands for a long time now and they are still popular when it comes to a winter break, because of its warm weather all year round. No one should visit the Canary Islands without visiting Tenerife. Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, holds many fascinating legends. One such legend is about the ancient people of Guanches. According to this story, the Guanches were gold-haired giants that survived the mysterious Atlantis, and Tenerife is one of the tops of a mountain of the sunken land.

The mountains of Tenerife divide the island into two unique sections: one consisting of tropical forests in the north, and the other consisting of scenic rocky land in the south. It is here that visitors will find Costa-Adeje and some of the most prestigious hotels on the island. While in Costa-Adeje, people will experience the island's refreshing mountain air, crisp ocean breezes and glorious beaches.

After enjoying the beaches of Costa-Adeje, people may want to visit Teide National Park. This exciting park is at the bottom of a volcano which visitors can get to by driving through mountains, quaint villages and banana plantations.

In these mountains, visitors will have the unique oppourtunity to view the Canary pines. These trees can only be found here, and the biggest tree is so large that it takes more than 10 people to surround it hand-in-hand. No trip to Tenerife would be complete without visiting the ancient pyramids of the island or Black Madonna, the guardian of Canary Islands. Whatever people choose to do when visiting these lovely Islands, there is certain to be something to captivate everyone.

Some great news is that there may be a new Canary Island if the undersea volcanic eruption will continue in the Atlantic Ocean south of the Canaries continues.

The eruption is part of the long-term volcanic evolution of the Canary Islands, which could either result in an entirely new island, or add additional territory to the southern coast of El Hierro.

The new island could be being created about 60 miles from the popular tourist destination Tenerife. The undersea volcano is spewing up the burning lava and gases through the sea bed about three miles south of El Hierro, the smallest of the seven Canary Islands.

The scientific professor Nemesio Perez, of the Canaries Institute of Volcanology, said his team had recently detected more than 11,000 tremors across the island. Will it be a new Canary Island? Nobody knows, so let’s wait and we will see.

Canary Islands

The Canary Islands consist of seven islands of volcanic origin in the Atlantic Ocean. They are located in the southwestern of Europe map on Africa coast and form an autonomous community of Spain.

This paradise group of Spain islands, enjoying a wonderful climate, with a constant mild temperature through all the year, and splendid beaches of fine sand, consists of 7 larger islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro) and a few smaller ones (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montana Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos).

Surprisingly, the landscape of each of the Canary island is radically different to the others.

The Canary Islands are now one of the biggest tourist destinations to people from the UK, Ireland and Germany with more than 10 million people visiting the Islands in total.

All of the Canary Islands are serviced by regular scheduled passenger ferry as well as ro-ro car ferry services.
